EDI Labs Terms of Use
Effective April 17, 2026 · legal@josh.one
These Terms of Use (“EDI Terms”) apply specifically to the EDI Core playground at labs.josh.one/edi. They supplement the Josh Terms of Service. By using the playground, you accept both.
1. Preview status
The EDI Core playground is a technology preview. It is under active development and may contain bugs, incomplete features, or parsing inaccuracies. Feature availability, behavior, and these terms may change without notice.
2. Permitted use
You may use the EDI playground to:
- Explore and learn EDI X12 transaction structure (837P, 837I, 835, 270/271, 278, and others).
- Validate and debug synthetic, anonymized, or otherwise non-sensitive EDI payloads.
- Evaluate whether EDI Core meets your technical requirements before any production use.
- Demonstrate EDI parsing concepts in an educational context.
3. Prohibited use: protected and sensitive data
You must not load, paste, or otherwise process the following data types in the EDI playground:
- Protected Health Information (PHI) as defined under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), 45 C.F.R. §§ 160.103, 164.514. This includes any individually identifiable health information.
- Personally Identifiable Information (PII) of real individuals, including but not limited to names, Social Security numbers, member IDs, provider NPIs linked to real patients, or dates of service linked to real claims.
- Real financial or billing data from production payer, provider, or clearinghouse systems.
- Any data subject to confidentiality obligations under contract or applicable law.
While EDI payloads you load are processed entirely within your browser and are not transmitted to our servers (see EDI Labs Data Handling), this does not reduce your compliance obligations. You remain responsible for how you handle regulated data.
4. HIPAA: no covered-entity or business-associate relationship
Josh, LLC is not a HIPAA covered entity or business associate with respect to the EDI playground. We do not execute Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) for use of the Labs playground. The playground is not HIPAA-compliant infrastructure and must not be used as such.
If your use case requires HIPAA-compliant tooling, do not use this playground with PHI. Contact hello@josh.one to discuss enterprise or compliant offerings.
5. No warranty on parsing accuracy
EDI X12 implementations vary significantly across trading partners, payers, and clearinghouses. The playground’s parser follows published ASC X12 standards (including TR3 Implementation Guides for 837P/837I/835/270/271/278) but:
- It may not correctly parse non-standard or proprietary EDI variants.
- Diagnostic messages (errors, warnings, info) reflect the parser’s best interpretation and are not authoritative compliance opinions.
- The parser is under active development. Output may change between versions.
Do not rely on playground parsing results to make production claims processing, eligibility, or authorization decisions.
6. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
THE EDI PLAYGROUND IS PROVIDED “AS IS” WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, JOSH, LLC DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES INCLUDING FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. JOSH, LLC IS NOT LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE PLAYGROUND OR RELIANCE ON ITS OUTPUT. THESE LIMITATIONS APPLY NOTWITHSTANDING THE FAILURE OF ESSENTIAL PURPOSE OF ANY LIMITED REMEDY.
These limitations apply regardless of whether Josh has been advised of the possibility of such damages and to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law.
7. Feedback
If you provide feedback about the playground (bug reports, parsing issues, feature requests), you grant Josh, LLC a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to use that feedback to improve the Service. You do not acquire any intellectual property rights in the Service through feedback.
8. Governing terms
These EDI Terms are supplemental to and governed by the Josh Terms of Service. In the event of conflict, these EDI Terms control for matters specific to the EDI playground. The Privacy Policy and EDI Labs Data Handling document also apply.
